Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out print. Through hearing stories, children are exposed to a rich and wide vocabulary. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen.
This term, 5th graders have been reading the story of Johnny Appleseed.
Johnny Appleseed was a legendary American pioneer who planted and supplied apple trees to much of the United States of America and became an american legend. Many people think that Johnny Appleseed was a fictional character, but he was a real person.
Our 5th graders have drawn pictures and their voices were recorded for a shared reading.
